A Just Eat spokesperson has issued an apology after the online food delivery platform faced ridicule for a series of AI-generated images that misrepresented various food items. The company had been testing AI technology to showcase menu items that lacked images, but the results were far from accurate.
Bizarre AI Creations
The AI produced some unusual combinations, including:
- Bacon and eggs floating in a glass of cola, a mix-up between "soda" and "soda bread."
- Chips protruding from muffins, leading to confusion over what a "chip muffin" actually is.
The spokesperson stated that the firm was "in the process of removing" these incorrect images and would halt further AI-generated content until improvements were made. "We work with tens of thousands of small restaurants on their food imagery, including funding professional local photographers," the spokesperson told the BBC. "We've been trialling AI-enhanced images, and as with any new technology, it isn't always quite right the first time."
