The Centre has initiated the retail sale of onions at Rs 35 per kg from its buffer stock, starting Thursday. This initiative aims to stabilize onion prices amid festive demand and will be implemented through mobile vans and stores operated by two cooperatives: the National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India Ltd (NAFED) and the National Consumer Cooperative Federation of India Ltd (NCCF).

Launch Details

Consumer Affairs Secretary Nidhi Khare flagged off the mobile vans from Krishi Bhawan. During the launch, Khare emphasized that there is sufficient production and availability of onions. However, to address price volatility, the government has taken proactive measures to cool down prices.

Retail Sale Locations

The retail sale will be conducted through:

  • 9 stores of NCCF
  • 13 stores of NAFED
  • 100 stores of Kendriya Bhandar
  • 40 mobile vans of NCCF
  • 39 mobile vans of NAFED
