A dilapidated house at 417 West Chew Avenue in Philadelphia, known locally as the "house of horrors," is at the center of a grim investigation involving the disappearance of seven women linked to its former occupant, Raymond Horsch. Horsch, a pornographer and career criminal who died last year at the age of 82, left behind an archive of disturbing photographs and films that investigators are now combing through in hopes of uncovering the truth about the women who vanished over the past three decades.

Investigation Overview

Last week, homicide investigators shifted their focus from analyzing a million photographs and films recovered from the property to excavating the house itself. So far, five of the seven missing women are believed to be dead, while 58 women have been identified from the recovered materials. Of those, 25 have been located but not yet interviewed, and 19 have spoken with detectives but declined to cooperate.

Investigators face a challenging task in determining whether the images depict real events or staged scenarios. According to police, the five women believed to be deceased appear unconscious, lifeless, or injured, but without bodies, the medical examiner cannot issue death certificates. A police source stated:

“

"We’re going slow and methodical. Do we think people were killed in the house? Sure. It’s a tough investigation because the guy who had the house was a violent pornographer. Is it art or is it reality?"
