In June, India mandated that manufacturers of high-caffeine beverages marketed as "energy drinks" cease using this description. This move was part of a broader regulatory effort in a market projected to reach $1.6 billion by 2028. The decision led to tensions among major brands, including Pepsi, Red Bull, Monster Beverage, and Reliance, owned by billionaire Mukesh Ambani, who expressed concerns that removing the category label could harm their brands built around instant-energy claims.
