Medical teams have been dispatched to two primary health centres in Polavaram district following the tragic death of a seven-year-old girl on Wednesday and the illness of over 70 people after consuming chloroquine tablets distributed during an anti-malaria campaign.

Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has ordered an investigation and directed senior medical and health officials to monitor the situation in Gollaguppa village, where the tablets were distributed last week during a fever-surveillance camp due to a rise in malaria cases.
District Collector K Dinesh Kumar reported that two villagers had tested positive for malaria, prompting the health drive. The young girl fell ill and lost consciousness after taking the tablet, with her condition linked to a drop in blood glucose levels. She was initially taken to a primary health centre and later transferred to Bhadrachalam Area Hospital in Telangana, where she unfortunately passed away.
““She was shifted to the nearby Primary Health Centre and subsequently to the Bhadrachalam Area Hospital for advanced medical care. She unfortunately passed away,” Kumar stated.
