The director of the Majestic Pride group, which operates offshore and onshore casinos in Goa, narrowly escaped an assassination attempt on Friday night. Two armed assailants fired gunshots at him outside a hotel in Porvorim, near Panaji.

Incident Details

Srinivas Nayak, the director of the offshore casino Majestic Pride, recounted the harrowing experience to The Indian Express. He stated, "I usually leave for home after 8 pm. Yesterday, as I exited the office premises to get into the car, two people, who had been waiting outside… suddenly opened fire at me. I think they fired 3-4 gunshots. Fortunately, my bodyguard retaliated and fired 3 rounds, which forced the assailants to flee. In the meantime, I quickly ran inside the premises."

Nayak expressed concern that the attackers had likely conducted a reconnaissance of his movements prior to the incident. He emphasized that he had not received any threats previously and did not have any known rivalries.

"I do not want to speculate on the motive for the shooting and jeopardize the police investigation. I have recorded my statement, and police are investigating," Nayak added.
