A Nigerian court has heard that the driver of a car carrying Anthony Joshua was attempting to overtake another vehicle when it crashed, resulting in the deaths of two of the boxer's friends. Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode, 46, faces charges including causing death by dangerous driving and driving without a valid national driver's licence, which he denies.
Incident Details
The group was traveling to visit Joshua's father in Ogun State, near Lagos, last December when the accident occurred. The court was informed that the passengers were asleep when Kayode lost control of his Lexus SUV while overtaking a moving truck, colliding with a parked lorry. Tragically, Latif Ayodele, Joshua's personal trainer, and Sina Ghami, his strength coach, died in the crash.
Court Proceedings
A second defendant, Abubakar Adamu, 35, the driver of the stationary lorry, denies a charge of obstructing the free flow of traffic. Inspector Christopher Ajayi Taiwo of the Ogun State Motor Traffic Division testified that by the time he arrived at the scene, both the damaged Lexus and the stationary lorry had been removed. However, debris from the crash and soya beans scattered from the lorry's load were found on the road.
