Unusual Temperature Fluctuations in the Balkans

Temperatures in the Balkans have fluctuated dramatically over the past week, with significant differences between daytime highs and overnight lows, a phenomenon known as the diurnal range. An area of high pressure over the region has resulted in prolonged sunshine during the day, while clear skies at night have allowed temperatures to drop rapidly.

In Kosanica, Montenegro, the average maximum temperature in October is 15°C (59°F), while the average minimum is 4°C. However, on October 4 and 5, the difference between daytime highs and overnight lows reached an astonishing 30°C, more than double the October average.

Upcoming Weather Changes

As the week progresses, high pressure is expected to build across northern and western Europe, pushing an area of low pressure southwards towards the Mediterranean. This low-pressure system will deepen as it crosses the Adriatic and Ionian Seas, moving eastwards into the Aegean Sea by mid-week.
