The US Coast Guard has announced the interception of a large cargo ship carrying fuel destined for Cuba as the Trump administration's oil embargo against the island nation continues. The vessel, named Grace, was stopped on September 5 in the Caribbean Sea between Cuba and Mexico while employing tactics to evade authorities.
Details of the Interception
According to the Coast Guard, the ship was 91 meters (300 feet) long and was believed to be using tactics common among the so-called 'dark fleet'. A Coast Guard team boarded the ship and escorted it to Mexico, where a Mexican navy inspection team confirmed the presence of large quantities of fuel in the vessel's ballast tanks. The ship was also carrying several containers believed to contain illicit fuel.
