The UK Defence Secretary, Wes Streeting, has emphasized the need for Britain to prepare for the threat of "state-sponsored terrorism" from hostile powers targeting everyday infrastructure. This warning comes as he inaugurated a new tank gun barrel factory in Telford, West Midlands on Thursday, as part of a broader national conversation about resilience in the face of emergencies.
Addressing Hybrid Warfare Risks
Streeting urged the public to consider how to respond to hybrid warfare risks, including cyber-attacks that could disrupt payment systems and collapse supply chains. He also highlighted the importance of being prepared for natural disasters, such as flooding and wildfires.
European nations have increasingly raised concerns about sabotage efforts by adversaries, particularly Russia. Notable incidents include an explosives-laden drone discovered near a Ukrainian cargo plane at Germany's Leipzig airport in August, along with a series of unexplained explosions and fires at defense facilities.
