Uber is laying off approximately 3,300 employees, which constitutes about 10% of its global workforce. This decision aims to streamline management layers and enhance investments in its ridesharing, delivery, and robotaxi divisions. The announcement was made in an internal email from CEO Dara Khosrowshahi, which was published online on Wednesday.
Restructuring Plans
According to the email, these layoffs are part of a broader restructuring initiative that will reduce the number of managers by 20%. Some of the affected personnel in managerial roles will transition to work as individual contributors. Additionally, Uber plans to cut the number of teams with one or two members by 50% and will let go of staff who are positioned more than seven layers down from the CEO.
