The Supreme Court Collegium has recommended Sanjay K Agarwal, a judge from the Chhattisgarh High Court, to be the new Chief Justice of the Rajasthan High Court. This recommendation comes amid ongoing allegations against Acting Chief Justice Sanjeev Prakash Sharma and protests from lawyers.

Context

The collegium's decision also includes the transfer of Justice Pushpendra Bhati, the second senior-most judge at the Rajasthan High Court, who will assume the role of Chief Justice at the Jammu and Kashmir High Court. Just hours before this announcement, Acting Chief Justice Sharma took leave due to escalating protests from the legal community.

Developments

According to the updated roster for the Jaipur bench, Acting Chief Justice Sharma will not be holding any sittings from September 1 to September 5. On August 24, he had previously listed various matters including PILs, Special Appeals, Income Tax Matters, contempt matters, and Civil Writ Petitions under a division bench that included himself and Justice Sangeeta Sharma.
