Raheem Sterling Pleads Guilty to Dangerous Driving

Raheem Sterling, the former England footballer, has pleaded guilty to dangerous driving and is facing potential imprisonment after a reckless incident involving his Lamborghini. The charges stem from an event on May 28, when Sterling drove for over an hour on the M25 and M3 motorways during rush hour while inhaling nitrous oxide.

Court Proceedings

Appearing at Basingstoke Magistrates' Court, Sterling accepted three charges, including possession of nitrous oxide and refusing to provide a specimen. He has been disqualified from driving and is currently on bail until November 25, when his sentence will be determined or referred to the crown court. The maximum penalty for his actions could be up to two years in prison, although a sentence of 12 to 18 months is considered more likely, which could potentially be suspended with mitigation.

During the court proceedings, prosecutor Simon Jones highlighted the severity of Sterling's driving. One witness expressed genuine concerns that Sterling's actions could lead to someone being killed, describing his driving as "absolutely horrendous." Jones recounted:

Multiple calls were made to the police reporting dangerous driving between 7:45 AM and 8:52 AM on the day of the incident. Dashcam footage revealed Sterling's car swerving dangerously between lanes, nearly colliding with the central reservation. Witnesses reported seeing him inhaling balloons while driving.
