Ben Dancer, a Nigerian dancer, is attempting to break the world record for the longest non-stop dance marathon. His goal is to dance for 168 hours, surpassing the current record of 127 hours set by Indian dancer Srushti Sudhir Jagtap in 2023. The attempt began on Tuesday, September 22, and if successful, he will complete his marathon early on Tuesday morning.

The Attempt

Dancer, known for his professional dancing career spanning 18 years, is performing at Freedom Park in Lagos. Young supporters have gathered to cheer him on, capturing his every move and dancing along from behind barriers.

“

"It's a beautiful moment. Seeing how far he has come and witnessing him achieve this feat made me incredibly proud and grateful to God," said Uche Anumudu, a spectator.

Dancer's performance incorporates Nigeria's rich dance traditions and contemporary internet culture, featuring genres like Afrobeats, fuji, jazz, and zouk. He has also donned traditional Nigerian outfits, such as the agbada and dashiki, to reflect the country's diverse cultural heritage.

Preparation and Support

In preparation for this marathon, Dancer underwent intensive fitness training, adjusting his diet to focus on carbohydrates and cardiovascular conditioning. During the attempt, he is allowed five minutes of rest for every continuous hour of dancing, during which he consumes light snacks and fluids.
