Meta has announced a significant update to its WhatsApp Business service, allowing AI agents to handle the setup and management of messaging for businesses. This change was revealed on Tuesday alongside the introduction of new AI-focused subscription plans.
Simplifying the Setup Process
Previously, setting up WhatsApp Business required developers to navigate multiple tools and services, including the Developer Console, Meta’s Business Manager, and the API reference. Now, businesses can simply communicate with their chosen AI agent to set up WhatsApp Business messaging by describing their needs.
This innovation is made possible by the new WhatsApp Business Tools MCP (Model Context Protocol) server, which connects AI coding agents like Claude, Cursor, Codex, or ChatGPT directly to the WhatsApp Business Platform. This expansion of Meta's MCP servers aims to streamline the onboarding process for businesses using WhatsApp.
