At Meta Connect this year, it was clear that the social media giant is fully committed to its expanding line of smart glasses. The glasses were ubiquitous at the annual event, where Meta showcased its latest hardware and AI products. Both Meta staff and numerous influencers appeared to have the glasses prominently displayed on their faces.

Smart Glasses Everywhere

Most of the demonstrations at the event featured the smart glasses. I joined the crowd and tried on several pairs of Meta’s high-tech specs. One notable product was the new, still-unreleased, audio-only smart glasses. This announcement followed recent criticisms of the company regarding its camera-equipped glasses, which some labeled as "pervert glasses" due to concerns about potential surveillance misuse.

The new audio-only glasses come equipped with six microphones but no camera, addressing privacy concerns. They are significantly lighter than other smart glasses I’ve worn and were quite comfortable. A Meta staff member highlighted the glasses’ entertainment and communication features, allowing users to listen to music and take phone calls without needing to reach for their phones.

Integration with Muse

These glasses will integrate with Muse, Meta’s personal assistant system, enabling users to give verbal commands. Although this feature is not yet available to the public, it allows wearers to interact with Muse directly. I had the chance to test this feature, which was both entertaining and somewhat humorous. The agent requires direct communication, and if you engage in conversation with others, it can become confused.
