In a diplomatic tightrope walk, External Affairs Minister (EAM) S. Jaishankar is set to visit Ukraine on a bilateral trip from September 3-5, 2026. This visit comes as Prime Minister Narendra Modi continues his engagements with Russia.
Official Announcement
On Wednesday, a spokesperson from the Ministry of External Affairs announced Jaishankar's visit, stating that he will hold bilateral consultations with Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha of Ukraine and Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski of Poland. The discussions will focus on enhancing bilateral relations and exchanging views on regional developments and mutual interests.
Context of the Visit
This marks Jaishankar's first standalone visit to Ukraine, which has been embroiled in conflict with Russia since February 2022. His last visit was in August 2024, as part of an official delegation accompanying Modi. In contrast, Jaishankar has visited Russia at least 10 times since 2019.
