Indian Railways is collaborating with IIT Hyderabad to study traffic and passenger movement at Secunderabad and Lingampalli railway stations. This initiative aims to reduce congestion and facilitate easier access for passengers entering, exiting, and moving around the stations.
Context
The Secunderabad and Lingampalli railway stations fall under the administrative jurisdiction of South Central Railway (SCR). Secunderabad railway station, situated in the twin-city region of Hyderabad and Secunderabad, is one of the major railway stations in the area. It features 10 platforms and manages around 2 lakh passengers daily, handling approximately 210 train services that carry about 84,000 passengers.
Lingampalli, another significant railway station, serves passengers across the Hyderabad and Secunderabad region. It accommodates more than 30 pairs of express trains and over 50 MMTS services, with an average daily passenger footfall exceeding 20,000. Located in western Hyderabad, Lingampalli is the nearest rail terminal for passengers traveling to areas such as HITEC City, Cyber Towers, and the Financial District. With increasing passenger traffic, Lingampalli has also become an important coaching terminal for the region.
