On Thursday, Fox News announced that it is parting ways with Maria Bartiromo, whose close ties to President Trump helped propel her ratings but ultimately unraveled her career at the network. In a brief statement, the network said, "We thank Maria for her work over the last 12 1/2 years and wish her all the best on her next chapter." The release did not include any remarks from Bartiromo, who last appeared on air in early August.
Bartiromo did not respond to NPR's multiple requests for comment. However, her attorney, Bryan Freedman, issued a statement on Friday claiming that assertions regarding Bartiromo being fired are "absolutely and unequivocally false." He described the reports as "irresponsible" and vowed to prove them wrong.
Career Highlights
Bartiromo initially brought credibility and flair to Fox Business Network as a financial markets journalist when she joined in 2014. She became a highly paid mainstay, hosting over 16 hours a week of programs on the business network and its corporate sibling, Fox News Channel. Her insider access to President Trump fueled both ratings and her prominence within the network.
During a press briefing at the White House on Thursday, Vice President JD Vance paid tribute to Bartiromo, stating, "I love Maria. I think she's an amazing person, amazing talent." Trump also expressed disbelief on Truth Social, stating, "Her fans, of which there are many, will not be happy."
