The Queensland minister Amanda Camm has resigned from her cabinet position following months of pressure regarding the state government's handling of the child safety system and efforts to combat domestic and family violence. Camm announced her decision on Friday, stating that it was "mine alone" and highlighted that some criticism she faced had exceeded the bounds of "public scrutiny and accountability."

Reasons for Resignation

Camm pointed to a recent alleged attack on federal MP Helen Haines as a significant factor in her departure. Over the past year, she has endured harassment, threats, bullying, and vilification. Camm had recently taken six weeks of medical leave, which included undergoing a surgical procedure. She acknowledged that her recovery would be "ongoing" and that she could not continue to fulfill her ministerial duties due to the workload and "the ongoing stresses."

“

"It would be unfair to the government for me to take further leave," Camm stated.

Context of Pressure

Before her leave, Camm was regarded as the government’s most under-pressure minister. Her relationship with Tim Mander, the sport and Olympics minister, had come under scrutiny in both parliament and the press. However, it was her dual responsibilities for child safety and the prevention of family violence that intensified the pressure on her job performance.
