A California library had an unexpected visitor on Wednesday: a black bear that wandered inside, snacking on treats and helping itself to a jar of honey. The incident occurred at the Mammoth Lakes branch of the Mono County Free Libraries at approximately 6:10 AM, more than four hours before the library's scheduled opening at 10 AM.

Bear's Snack Raid

According to library director Josef Bopp, the bear raided the staff snack supply, indulging in peanut butter, peach cups, cookies, and honey. After its snack, the bear explored the library, checking out the new releases section and the reference desk before exiting on its own.

The Mono County Office of Education released surveillance footage showing the bear strolling through the library, sniffing books, a chair, and the ground along the way.

"This morning the Mammoth Lakes library had a special visitor before the doors opened for patrons," the office stated. "We can only assume the new Li-BEAR-ian was looking for a copy of Winnie-the-Pooh, published 100 years ago today!"
