Bihar and Jharkhand signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Monday for the sharing of Sone river water. The agreement was formalized by Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary and Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren in the presence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Jal Shakti Minister C R Patil.

Agreement Details

After the signing, Shah stated that this agreement resolves a long-standing water dispute in eastern India. He emphasized that it will provide irrigation water to millions of farmers in rural areas of both states, as well as drinking water for the local population. The Union Home Ministry released a statement highlighting the significance of the MoU.

"This agreement will provide irrigation water to lakhs of farmers in large rural areas of Bihar and Jharkhand, along with drinking water for the people," said Shah.
