Congress workers protested on Monday against the FIR lodged against Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of Opposition, in Haldwani, Uttarakhand. The FIR was filed under sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the SC/ST Act.
Context
K C Venugopal, Congress general secretary (organisation), stated that Gandhi had previously demanded an FIR against BJP workers for a "purification" ceremony following a rally led by Congress president and Dalit leader Mallikarjun Kharge in Haldwani earlier this month. Instead of addressing Gandhi's request, the Uttarakhand Police filed an FIR against him.

Venugopal criticized the BJP, saying, "This is nothing but the pot calling the kettle black! What is worse, BJP has jumped in to defend this abhorrently casteist behaviour, showing to the world that they are the biggest perpetrators of social injustice today." He accused the BJP of using state power to attack those who speak out against atrocities faced by Dalits.
