In a significant development, two Kuki-Zo MLAs physically attended the Manipur legislative session that began on Wednesday, marking the first attendance since the ethnic conflict erupted in 2023. Saitu MLA Haokholet Kipgen and Saikul MLA Kimneo Haokip had refrained from visiting the Assembly, like other Kuki-Zo legislators, citing security concerns.

Previous Attendance

Earlier, three Kuki-Zo MLAs, including Deputy Chief Minister Nemcha Kipgen, Churachandpur legislator LM Khaute, and Tipaimukh MLA Ngursanglur Sanate, participated virtually in the last session held in February. There are a total of 10 Kuki-Zo MLAs in the 60-member Manipur Assembly.

Statements from the MLAs

Upon returning to the Assembly, Kipgen expressed his happiness to be back after a long absence. Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh welcomed the participation of the Kuki-Zo MLAs, calling it a positive step towards fostering unity and peace in Manipur. He emphasized that collective efforts could help the state progress towards peace.
