A father who fatally shot a gunman at his daughters' school in Oregon has expressed deep anguish over being unable to save more students after hearing their pleas for help. The tragic incident occurred earlier this month at Silver Rail Elementary School, where a 16-year-old former student opened fire, killing three students and a teacher.

The Incident

Kaylub Giamanco, 36, who has been hailed as a hero, recounted his experience in an interview with Oregon Public Broadcasting (OPB). He stated, "I want to apologise for not saving their babies," referring to the parents of the children who lost their lives. Giamanco emphasized that while he felt gratitude for saving some children, he was haunted by those he could not save.

The victims included boys aged five, eight, and 11. In total, six people were shot in the classroom, including another child and a teacher who were wounded.

Giamanco's Actions

Giamanco described how the day of the attack began with breakfast and preparing his daughters for school picture day. After deciding to return home for lunch instead of eating at work, he found himself near the school as the attack unfolded. Initially, he thought the gunman was playing a prank until he witnessed the shooter fire at a pickup truck and head towards the school.

He retrieved a handgun from his vehicle and called emergency services, stating, "I'm sorry, I have to go in. People are going to die." As he approached the school, he heard children pleading for their lives and more gunfire. Giamanco crawled towards the building, determined to intervene.
