Emergency Preparedness in the UK

Andy Burnham, the Mayor of Greater Manchester, has revealed that he has stockpiled beans, soup, and Twiglets in preparation for potential civil emergencies. His comments come in light of a new government campaign advising households to have sufficient water and long-life food supplies.

Government Campaign

The Be Ready campaign encourages citizens to ensure they have at least three days' worth of supplies, including bottled water, to prepare for emergencies such as severe weather events or cyber-attacks. During an interview on BBC Radio 5, Burnham was asked if he would include a bottle of sauvignon blanc in his emergency supplies, to which he replied:

“

"I’m not sure a bottle of wine is your best first port of call if you’re in a slightly crisis situation, but it probably helps when you’ve done the hard work."

He emphasized the importance of basic supplies, stating:

“

"I do like my beans, so I have plenty of those in the cupboard and soup. I think those are the kind of things that I would recommend people to have as well as Twiglets. I’m not sure I can get by for too long without those."
