This byelection is set to be a high-stakes battle between the Green Party's grassroots campaigning and a revitalized Labour Party under Andy Burnham.

Candidate Selection Process

Local Green Party members in Holborn and St Pancras are expected to formally endorse Polanski, although the candidate selection process will not be completed until next Friday. Under Polanski's leadership, the party has seen a significant increase in membership, more than tripling in size.

Polanski's Vision

In an interview with the Camden New Journal, Polanski expressed his desire to "stand up for people struggling to pay their bills" and conveyed confidence in the Greens' ability to win the seat. He has a personal connection to the area, having previously lived there and currently residing in east London. "I know it well and I love it," he stated, emphasizing the unique qualities of Holborn and St Pancras.

Campaign Strategy

The Green Party plans to mobilize campaigners in the constituency this weekend, utilizing a strategy that successfully overturned a 13,000-plus Labour majority in Greater Manchester earlier this year. Starmer, who has represented the seat since 2015, announced his resignation following his departure as prime minister. His majority decreased from nearly 28,000 to 11,500 in the last election, amid challenges from the left.
