Investors are closely watching Tesla's third-quarter earnings call on Wednesday afternoon, following CEO Elon Musk's suggestion of a potential merger with his rocket and AI company, SpaceX. During a call with SpaceX investors on Tuesday, Musk stated, “There’s a lot of merit to combining the companies.” He revealed that both companies' boards have formed special committees to explore this merger, although no agreement has been reached yet.

Earnings Report

Tesla reported better-than-expected earnings for the third quarter, with revenue of $28.05 billion and earnings per share of $0.48. This surpassed Wall Street's expectations of $27.9 billion in revenue and $0.43 in earnings per share. However, the company’s revenue was slightly lower than the previous quarter's $28.23 billion, and automotive revenue dropped by 3% compared to the previous year.

“We maintained strong momentum on many projects spanning Super Intelligence (SI), robotics, and renewable energy that will be critical to building a future of Amazing Abundance,” the company stated in its report.

Despite the positive earnings, Tesla has faced challenges this year, including a decline in stock price and increased competition from cheaper Chinese automakers. The company's share price has fallen by over 11% this year, although it has shown some recovery following news of the potential SpaceX merger.
