Asom Gana Parishad (AGP), an ally of the Bharatiya Janata Party-led Assam government, has announced Diptimoyee Choudhury as its candidate for the Bongaigaon seat in the upcoming Assam by-election. This decision comes despite opposition from some party leaders and workers.

Senior AGP leader and MP Atul Bora expressed support for Diptimoyee Choudhury's nomination, emphasizing that Bongaigaon has historically been an AGP stronghold. He stated:
